Video Hardware Acceleration Support

I can’t seem to find the video hardware acceleration API for Windows.

Under Linux, it’s Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix (VDPAU)

Under OS X, it’s Video Decode Acceleration Framework (VDA)

There’s apparently still nothing yet for Windows when it comes to hardware accelerated video decoding. I don’t know why. Windows is still the most used OS.

I’ve compiled an unsupported OpenGL build of XBMC. It works fine, but it doesn’t have any real hardware acceleration compared to the DirectX build. GPU monitoring shows that the gpu load on my Nividia GTX 670 is too high to be hardware accelerated decoding. It appears to be instead some software based decoding on my Nvidia GPU.

I’m on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I have the latest Nvidia 335.23 drivers. Glinfo2 shows that my renderer is Geforce GTX 670/PCIe/SSE2 with OpenGL version 4.4.0

I thought the Windows support was called PureVideo.
